Wow, Sunday was the last day of Religious School. I have had an amazing experience with your children. They were a great class. I am impressed with the work they put forward and the learning that was done. Each and everyone came to class ready for the next challenge. That is why our bake sale and shopping trip were such a success.
I have had the pleasure of teaching most of your children for the second, third and some cases fourth time. I have loved it and wish them well next year!
Thanks to all of you for your endless help.
Have a GREAT safe summer.
Fondly,

This Spring we considered all kinds of topics. We looked at Israel on Israeli Independence Day, we covered some of the Holocaust and we covered what Social Action means at the year end with Mitzvah Day. We'll finish the year with a vote on where our Tzedakah money will go as a fitting end to our G'milut Chasadim (Acts of Kindness) section of our curriculum.

6th Grade
This semester the class focused mostly in the prophets part of the Tanach. In the last month we learned about Elijah and Kings David and Solomon. We also continued talking about mitzvah projects and tzedakah projects for the money collected in class and in students' private lives. This was a great year and I wish everyone a great summer.
Mukdamim
This semester we learned about many of the prophets mentioned in the Tanach, from Deborah to Jeremia and Job. We had a very productive year and had a lot of fun doing it. I wish everyone a great summer!
Bet A
This semester we mostly focused on learning to chant the V'ahavta. The students did an amazing job and I can't wait to see them chant it at the Convocation service. This year we learned the Yotzer, V'ahavta and Ma Nishtana. Students got a summer packet so they can continue practicing their Hebrew over the summer! I wish everyone a great summer!

The preconfirmation class had a great time at the Botanic Garden taking photos that illustrate the prayer Yotzer Or. Wait til you see them next Sunday! Blessed with an absolutely fabulous day, the students were able to use everything they have learned about seeing "through a Jewish lens."The photos are just stunning!

Dear Second Grade Parents,
As our year in religious school comes to a close, our last few lessons have tied our studies all together. We have studied Torah, Avodah (prayer & how to talk to God), and finally G'milut Chasadim (acts of Loving Kindness). Last week, we sent home your child's "Sukkah Shalom", a page including the Sh'ma prayer to help them create bedtime rituals connected to prayer. We also talked about Eilu D'Varim (These are the things), a prayer that helps us connect Torah to our actions. What kind of choices do we want to make and how can we act according to the "things" that the Torah tells us are "beyond measure"? Specifically we discussed:
Showing Respect for Parents
Being nice to Other People
Paying Attention to Learning
Making Peace Among People
We hope you and your child will have a conversation about their choices of their actions. The activity sheet they created to bring home offers you an opportunity to concretely document and reinforce these behaviors in your family. I hope this activity will give you a helpful tool in helping your child to make good choices.
Since their workbooks have been sent home, there is further information that may be helpful to you. Although we did not always use all the activities in our books, we often discussed and read the text for the lessons.
I hope you have a wonderful summer and hope to see you at Lakeside in the coming year.
Sincerely,
Lynn Darin, 2nd Grade Teacher

Dear Parents,
I can't believe this year is coming to an end. The students have been learning about how we each have the power to make the world a more holier place. Each act of G'milut Chasadim can help students to find balance in their own lives as they continue to reach out in kindness to others.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach your children. I hope everyone has a relaxing and wonderful summer.
Shalom,

Today, May 7, 2013, corresponding to the Hebrew date of 27 Iyar 5773, our Lakeside Congregation's "kitah Gimmel B" class had a party to celebrate the conclusion of a great, educational, and fun year! In our "Kol Yisrael/Prayers of our People" book, we started with the "Barchu" prayer which calls the congregants to join in praising God, and we continued to learn all the important prayers to the "Amidah", the ancient prayer of praise and devotion. In the process, we learned to read, understand and lead the congregation in chanting the most fundamental prayers in our Siddur (prayerbook). We also integrated important concepts and beliefs, and learned more Ivrit (Hebrew)! The students enjoyed the word searches and matches, and loved to raise their voices in meaningful song!
We also made great progress in our Ulpan (conversational Hebrew) section. Our study themes included how, in Ivrit/Hebrew, to ask and answer hello and how are you, to identify members of our families and the different rooms in our houses, to name and be able to ask for the types of things we like to eat and drink, to know the Hebrew words for the clothes we wear, to identify in Hebrew the objects and people in our classroom/school, to ask what time it it and what activities are associated with that time, and to ask and answer concerning the places and businesses we go and work! On this, our last day of this school year, each student was given a packet of summer practice materials which we expect them to complete over the summer, and to return to us when we resume school in the fall. We also expect them to have some fun, recharge their batteries, and come back ready to continue their Jewish education. Have a great summer!

Today in class we practiced our mini Bar/Bat Mitzvah service. We combine morning/afternoon prayers, the Yotzer Or and the Ashrai. Cantor Michael came into class and we discussed chanting same blessing with different tunes. We also went through the order of the service. This is the last time I'm meeting with the students. I wish all of you good luck and have a great summer.
Practice makes perfect so please practice over the summer every chance you have.
