B’nai Mitzvah Policies

B'nai Mitzvah Dates

Lakeside Congregation assigns B’nai Mitzvah dates in accordance with the North Shore Chavurah of Rabbis. B’nai Mitzvah dates will be assigned to all B’nai Mitzvah students in 4th Grade and given out in May of that year. Shabbat morning T’filot begin at 10:30am.

Eligibility and Requirements

B’nai Mitzvah families must be members of Lakeside Congregation, and the B’nai Mitzvah student(s) must be enrolled the 7th grade program.

B’nai Mitzvah date will be assigned only if a family is in good financial standing with the Congregation.

Lakeside Congregation can make exceptions to these requirements on a case-by-case basis (i.e., families new to the area, families changing temple affiliation, etc.).

- Students should attend and participate in all of their assigned Religious and Hebrew School classes, even after their B’nai Mitzvah occurs.

- Students are encouraged to attend and usherin a minimum of two worship services during the year prior to becoming a B’nai Mitzvah.

- Students should attend all tutoring sessions and complete their mitzvah project as arranged for the B’nai Mitzvah.

- Parents of the B’nai Mitzvah student should participate in and support the preparation process. In this way, the B’nai Mitzvah ceremony will be a spiritually meaningful and significant life cycle event for the entire family.

B’nai Mitzvah Tutoring, Scheduling, and Additional Information

Students will have opportunitiy for one-on-one appointments with our B’nai Mitzvah tutor, Rabbi and Cantor as they learn to chant blessings, trope, and Torah and Haftarah portions.

B’nai Mitzvah are typically scheduled during the school year between the months of September and June. Requesting a date does not automatically mean that you will receive that date, however we do our best to accomodate your top three requests.

There is a B’nai Mitzvah fee, which must be paid in full along with all current fiscal obligations to Lakeside Congregation. The fee is typically paid in three installments. The first third is due at the time the family requests a B'nai Mitzvah date; the second third is due twelve months thereafter; and the final third is due at the commencement of tutoring classes. Exception payment plans should be worked out with Lakeside's Vice President - Treasurer. Your date will be reserved upon receipt of this signed agreement.
